Ah, Anime Weekend Atlanta, how your evil beckoning cruelty calls to us, drawing us into your perverse embrace of schoolgirls, catgirls, and muttering to myself, "I'm so going to Hell." The inevitable Hell-bound nature of my existence usually watching something wander by and noting aloud, "Can't be older than thirteen." Cue inevitable phrase, here.
Needless to say, I've already created a Flickr set for all the pics from the Con and put them up, with cropping and colour correction. There aren't really quite as many pics as I might like, but I foolishly left my camera charger here at the Lair, and was on limited battery power, much to my chagrin. Still, Liberty Libertine was the perfect squad photographer, going above and beyond the call of duty to get some damn fine snaps. The vast bulk of images in the collection are by her hand. The poster-girl for the collection is the lovely and charming nyxsis, whom, along with Liberty Libertine, made sure I didn't forget to eat, trip over my own feet, or otherwise fail in the biological rat-race. My great and abiding appreciation to both of them for their exceedingly excellent efforts, and a public "thank you" from the Dread Lord goes to both. It had been years since I'd had the pleasure of nyxsis' company, and her presence at AWA was a more than welcome pleasure. __THE_ONI__, Mike, Liberty Libertine and I had the pleasure of staying in the Embassy Suites near the convention center, a place which I heartily recommend for others thinking of attending AWA. Its within walking distance, if you really want, the two-room suites have a wonderful fold-out couch in the front room (which __THE_ONI__ would be the expert on; I merely sat upon it), a microwave, a nice closet, and two double beds. Oh, yes, and an insanely charming and friendly staff who were more than happy to shuttle us around in the shuttle busses, including an entire crew run to the local steak house for dinner on Saturday night.
Overall, I have to rate the latest AWA as an 8.5/10. There were a few rolls on the Minor Drama Table, but not much larger than a d4 or d6. I think once we rolled a d12, but that's it. The con suffers from possibly the worst scheduling and timeliness of any Con I've ever been to, but given I don't really go for Con functions, I was merely annoyed, not wholly pissed off. As a relax-a-con, AWA hits some solid points. |
