GURPS Cabal
You're GURPS Cabal. You're mysterious and
sexy. You are also vast and greater than the
sum of your parts. Sasha loves you with all
his heart.

Which GURPS book are you?

Kind of amusing, this. I suppose I should look into Cabal.

As threatened, its February, and I'm putting out the Donjon character all-call for players in an every-other-Tuesday-night online game of Westerbury Tales. (I'm looking specifically at you, [info]point5b, [info]relevantpink, and [info]anselm23.) The system in question being Donjon, pretty much the sky's the limit, but I'm making some slight effort to cling to a few of the hoary old fantasy tropes and you'll need a pretty good idea to get a non-human into the game,. though its certainly possible.

I hope to update the wiki dynamically, as character definition and in-play exploration expand the setting. For the moment, only Westerbury and immediate surrounds have any definition at all; as befits high fantasy, the rest is, as far as the readers/players know, untrammeled and ready for exploration.

All potential players, contact me and we'll work something out for access to the Donjon text if you can't afford the measly $10 PayPal'd to buy the PDF.

Current Music: Satanicide - Heather - 03 - We Rock [3:21]
Just as a note, the Satanicide album, Heather, and the rather abstruse drivin' rock compilation EZ Ridin' are both up on the music server in the appropriate places.

Satanicide is actually a whole lot better than it has any right to be, which impresses me to no end. Its both self-mocking and musically talented. Colour me shocked.

Rather cute bit, this, starting off with ...
The story starts with Frodo: a young hobbit, quite bright, a bit dissatisfied with what he's learnt so far and with his mates back home who just seem to want to get jobs and settle down and drink beer. He's also very much in awe of his tutor and mentor, the very senior professor Gandalf, so when Gandalf suggests he take on a short project for him (carrying the Ring to Rivendell), he agrees.

Frodo very quickly encounters the shadowy forces of fear and despair which will haunt the rest of his journey and leave permanent scars on his psyche, but he also makes some useful friends. In particular, he spends an evening down the pub with Aragorn, who has been wandering the world for many years as Gandalf's postdoc and becomes his adviser when Gandalf isn't around.

After Frodo has completed his first project, Gandalf (along with head of department Elrond) proposes that the work should be extended. He assembles a large research group, including visiting students Gimli and Legolas, the foreign postdoc Boromir, and several of Frodo's own friends from his undergraduate days. Frodo agrees to tackle this larger project, though he has mixed feelings about it. ("'I will take the Ring', he said, 'although I do not know why.'")

I'm assuming that everyone's seen the Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl (and, if not, the link I'll post shortly here has it, too) ...

But have you seen the rather bitterly cynical parody of it that's been consed up?

Its ... really good. Though the original ad is rather darkly evil in its own right, not the least of reasons being it makes the same ultimate point as its parody, just not quite as pointedly. The Main Gauche as opposed to the rapier-through-the-eye thing. Still, you have to wonder ... what in Hades' name is Pepsi really trying to do, other than vaguely appeal to people who want free tracks from iTunes? Its an amusing little piece, but I'm not exactly sure how to take it.

Pepsi, the drink of rebel youth? You just have to wonder.
