New Arrivals: Well, SimCity4 has finally reached my hot little tentacles and -- damn, I say. Its a beautiful piece of work, and I can get lost in just fiddling with the terrain editor, but, Hades below, there's just no way I'm not running into some kind of bizarre bug. Well, technically, I already ran into some kind of bizarre bug, because I had to manually edit the .ini file to get it to run at all (it was using the DX 7.1 drivers, and not init'ing the GeForce3, even though I have DX9 installed -- so I edited the .ini to use the GL drivers). There doesn't seem to be any way to set up a self-sufficient economy before the whole thing starts going right to Hell and you've run out of money. In every one of the previous games I lept right in and could at least be self-sufficient on the small scale, but this thing is seriously throwing me. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Sorcerer of Death's Construction: Blue, don't forget I need your character Appearance for the S&S game.

BSG: So, Ron Moore is not only planning a new version of Battlestar Galactica, he's planning to do it in a whole new style. Interestingly, the only SF TV series to have taken most of his stylistic conventions on before is -- Firefly. The cinema verite style, the realistic interiors (the whole interior of the ship was constructed as two large sets for long shots and such -- people were really running down the hall, etc), the new cutting style, even experimentation with the split-screen method of depicting complex action (which I found vaguely daunting, but mainly because it was a new pardigm of presentation). Its interesting that Moore would pick these particular conventions. They're good ones, no doubt, but they provide a certain innate question. BSG has a small, but rabid, fanbase, not unlike Trek geeks -- will they tune in every week just to see what their latest bitch about Moore's changes is? I'm not sure.

Escaflowne: [info]relevantpink, if anyone can look like Dilandau, it appears to be Elijah Wood., but I demand the right to be visual designer and script doctor for the Guymelf and Zaibach forces, and may even demand the right to be Folken's dub-voice. You would have to pick on one of my fave anime, curse you. And one of my fave characters -- and, sadly, I fear Wood can't be overwhelmingly obsessively psychotic enough for the role. Return of the King should tell us one way or another.

Taboo:

take the taboo quiz.
and go to mewing.net. nothing is taboo there.

(Well, given my social environment, I guess it comes as no surprise. Dear Hades below.)

LJ Tech: Because, Hell, I just love analysis:
LJ Analysis Made Easy )
Perhaps not the most vastly insightful thing I've ever read, and I'm annoyed the original author's too lazy to write it to fetch and parse the page themselves, but still vaguely entertaining.
