You know, I’m aware I’ve just not been blogging here in any significant sense lately. I really need to do something about that at some point, but with Operation BSU eating so much of the venom I used to put into blogging, it’d just turn into a rambling morass of gaming issues and design ideas, and who wants to read that.

Still, if you’re interested in tracking my comings and goings in a more meta-sense, check out my tumble-blog at Tumblr, Madness and Flames. Properly, it has “goddamn RSS” so you can follow it through your favourite reader and conflates my Twitter feed, my Flickr posts, the links I save to my Jaanix system, and my Google Reader shared articles. One stop shopping for the stuff I think is interesting, and tracks the things flowing across my eyes regularly.

Perhaps not as exciting as my rambly, perverse thoughts, but certainly will keep you up to date.

I’m debating working up some kind of audio-blog thing I can just mutter into when the mood strikes, but I haven’t decided on technology, yet. Probably that’ll involve yet more RSS feeds.

Man. Had a minute or two in which to get curious, and loaded your OpBSU!NewYear episode, and it ... uh, had the muddiest sound quality imaginable. Is that the TalkShoe "listen" link, or some sort of weird "Squid Hates Left Coast" thing going on?

I mean, the production quality except for that was spectacular, especially considering that most podcasts come off, to me, as being the unfiltered monologue of that guy in line at a sci fi convention who is WAY too opinionated about Buffy, except you can't divert the chain of drivel by playfully asking questions to send him off on tangents. Or stab him with your "costume" knife. And the girls are just as bad. And the sensory flashback to the smell of someone who should have bathed instead of rolling in cheetos and spilled beer.

And is there some sort of freaking "Nasal Tone Amplification" filter these guys use? Come ON, "Honky" is supposed to be an insult, people, don't go out of your way to make it sound like your nose is a chapel.

Your podcasts sound like radio programs, which calms the cynic in me.
Which adds to the cognitive dissonance of the muddy sound, because it cannot be something you intended ... it doesn't convey anything.
So, what caused that?

OpBSU!NewYear episode, and it … uh, had the muddiest sound quality imaginable.

Compare to, say, Episode 29, Squid’s Redoubt: Operation BSU - 029 - Christmas From the Aerodrome, which was largely recorded at the lovely flying recording studio here in the Lair and processed at CD-quality bitrates, and it becomes fairly quickly clear that the issue is an issue with TS only recording the show live at 56k and that I (and the production elements) are coming in through a Skype phone bridge. Most of the other callers are all coming in via cell phones, which mangle the frequency response pretty horribly. Cram the lot into a 56k bridge and you get kind of what you get.

Technology limitations are what we have. It was a little better on SJphone when we could connect thereby because it was one less compression bridge, but … there you go.

is enlightened.

OK, so they need to fix their shit to record through a much better bridge, and then post-process it down to a manageable size.

I miss the actual you. The multimedia dissemination of you is nice, but not ultimately wholly sustaining.

The actual me is as ever lurking in his Lair. Easy to find whenever. Possibly boring.
