Rastatt to BietigheimSurprisingly, for me, I managed to get into the First Clash scenario tonight.

(For those who are a little slow at the home game, FC is an extended multiplayer online Steel Beasts scenario which occurs at scheduled times, so far Saturdays, and deals with a Canadian-on-Russian WWIII scenario, circa 1984.)

On the left you'll see tonight's mission area as it appears today. I was actually on the Russian side, and we started with a significant force south of Rastatt aimed right up toward the heart of the town along the railway, and with a lesser force east of Bietigheim short of Malsch, poised to press west and distract the NATO forces with a recon-fronted feint.

I, given my preferences and because I can't hit the broad side of a barn, was given three recce elements of BRDM2-ATs screening a company of T-72's. My job was to make sure there were no surprises lurking in the woods short of the autobahn, then press forward of the tanks toward Bietigheim to make sure things were clear.

The woods were fine. On a hunch, I sent an element north to check out road conditions and almost immediately found a mine field. The hard way.

Pushing west, one element recon'd the open field between the tanks and objective Pawn, and just after noticing the whole area was littered with abitises, took a sabot through the front.

"Operation command, be advised there is one road-blocking minefield and at least one tank in east Pawn Recommend artillery."

But, there was nothing for it, we had to push on across the area along the road. Them's orders.

Needless to say, all the BRDM's took it in the bobo, and all but one of the tanks, but we distracted them enough for the three companies of tanks to push toward Rastatt and engage the NATO goons in the railbed itself, at ranges under 500m in many cases. Knife-fighting, in an ugly way.

All in all, I'm definitely looking forward to trying it again next scenario. Maybe I'll even get to shoot at something! :)
